Rancho Cordova Kiwanis Home Repair Program Several years ago, our club started a program to make repairs to the homes in Rancho Cordova. The assistance is available to families that are unable to make repairs for themselves due to being elderly, disabled, or lacking income. The first year we advertised and received 13 applications of which we selected 10 homes. The next year was less due to lack of funds. This year, we associated with the First Covenant Church and did 47 projects utilizing about 500 people. We were also successful in receiving a grant from the City of Rancho Cordova for $25,000 to pay for materials.
Our next home repair day is scheduled for this spring. Kiwanians Joe Gilbert and John Buescher are in charge of the project. We feel that this project is a huge success, not only helping families, but, also improving neighborhoods. Eric Almquist, Rancho Cordova Kiwanis
Here is a project we did a few years ago. The Weed and Seed group, that, then Kiwanian Lorraine Black, used to run, also helped. Shown are Kiwanians Harry Mack, a Weed and Seed volunteer, Lorraine Black, Doug Pechstein, Tom Wentz, Mark Supan and John Buescher. |
