Annual Prayer Breakfast Division 44
The next time you hear a siren.
The first object of Kiwanis, "To give primacy to the human and spiritual,
rather than the material values of life".
With the Kiwanis year 2007-2008 over one half over, Division 44 paused to
take a spiritual breather at the annual prayer breakfast hosted by the
Kiwanis Clubs of Sunrise Citrus Heights and Carmichael. The Oak Avenue
Church provided a breakfast at no cost and all monies raised went to support
the California Parks Ministry.
About 30 Kiwanians from Auburn, Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Rancho Murieta,
Rocklin, and Roseville were inspired by guest speaker Rev. Marty Hills for
the Sacramento County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy. Her address was a personal
insight as to the motivation and feelings for those who wear the badge on
their chests.
Chaplains are among the First Responders to tragedies, emergencies, and
disasters. These chaplains have the painful tasks to notify families of
deaths. This is balanced with the joyful assignments of performing
marriages. The chaplains "ride-alongs", stand watch with the family, they
divert attention when loved ones are covered with blankets and rolled with a
gurney into a van to the coroner's office.
Chaplain Hills challenge is worth sharing, "When you hear a siren, say a
prayer for the first responder; for protection of our community; for the
neighbors; for the victims. Loose the power of prayer to take back our
neighborhoods who would otherwise try to destroy it with drugs, gangs, and
crime. For ours is a loving God who responds to those who ask His help and
guidance."
