This is email is being sent to all who love and respect Leona Bright….

But I don’t have email addresses for the entire world…

If you are just being informed… Leona fell at our KFH Friday. She was trying to step over a curb or something like that. She was taken to the med center by the paramedics.

This blue portion is from Pamela Haines as of 8:04 am on Tuesday May 22, 2007

Would you send this message  on to the membership and include Roni Stroud?  (yes she is addressed) Roni anticipated Leona being at the June 23 concert at Mondavi Center. I would be amazed if she was in any condition to attend.

I visited her on Sunday.  She was doing much better than the previous day by her own measure.
She was sitting up but not walking around yet.
She has at least 5 doctors looking at various injuries and potential intervention (surgery? brace? therapy?)
There were no answers or even predictions as of Sunday p.m.

She cannot hear the phone and it's difficult for her to reach it even when someone hands it to her.
I was glad to hear her talking about considering a care facility if she has surgery.
Even if she does not, she knows she needs help in her home.
She has been without help for the last month at her home.

With a previous surgery recovery she had some care providers for 3 months at her home that she really liked.
Her family is supposed to be checking on that possibility.
Leona also said the UCDavis "person" (I'm guessing a discharge planner) was looking into care at home.
Her spirits are remarkably good.
What a woman.

This portion is where Leona is now. (See attachment or read here: Asbury Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 2257 Fair Oaks Blvd. Sacramento, 95825 (916) 649-2000.) What a trick to get there. It is on the NE side of the Fair Oaks &  Howe Intersection. On the SE side of that Intersection is the Baker Square Restaurant. Because of the double roads in that area it is a trick to get in and a trick to get out.

This green  portion reports how I found her today during a brief visit Tuesday May 22nd.

1.  She has a phone but it is not hooked up, Marilyn is taking care of that.

2.  She prefers no visitors since she is very banged up, but it did not stop me. She does not like to look anything but her best, and her best looking is not what she is looking.

3.  Her left hand is black and maybe broken.

4.  Her right hand is bruised and I think there are stitches.

5.  She might have broken rib (X-rays taken but the results not made available to Leona yet).

6.  She is in Asbury for rehab. What rehab I am not sure.

7.  She has been on her back until yesterday, and did sit up. She is moved around with a wheel chair. Not ambulatory that I could determine.

8.  She did not have her glasses on.

9.  She has a big black eye (the right one). There are stitches near the eye, I think.

10.           I asked her what to tell her friends, and she said something to the effect she is fine.

11.           I found her coherent and conversant.
